For inpatient acute care rehab at UF Health Shands Rehab Centers, occupational, physical and speech therapists work together to coordinate therapeutic interventions for pediatric and adult patients who are hospitalized.

First, care begins with an in-depth assessment of a patient’s condition. Then a therapist develops a customized treatment program that is directed toward making meaningful, practical and sustained changes in a patient’s ability to function. Goals for therapy are developed with the patient and/or family member and are focused toward maximizing functional independence, preventing further movement and function deficits and maintaining health.
